Week 7 -18th May 2020
Weekly inspiration for you at home, this week brought to you by Charlotte
Understanding The World
- Visit Mars virtually - NASA have released a 360 degree tour of the real surface of Mars captured by the Curiosity Rover. You can also visit the Grand Canyon virtually - do you think it looks a bit like the surface of Mars?
- Africa Live - See if you can spot any wildlife at the Tau Waterhole in South Africa!
Literacy
- Learn your name in Sign Language - Use the fingerspelling pictures to see if you can spell out your name in sign language! There are also lots of different signs you can learn, such as these sign greetings.
- Rhyming Basket - Put some items in a basket, each with a rhyming partner, such as a duck and a truck. Ask your child to pick something out and say it out loud, and then find something else in the basket which rhymes. Alternatively, you can start with an empty basket and ask them to find items that rhyme - harder than you'd think!
Numeracy
- Adding up or recognising numerals - Numeracy in disguise! Use a cardboard box with numbers on (which could be in the form of a garage/train station/monster with teeth missing etc) and see if you can roll a ball/car/train/monster food into the number holes! Great for number recognition or adding/subtracting.
- Number Pancakes - Another great one for number recognition, make some cardboard pancakes with numbers or spots, flip them and see who can flip the biggest number!
Exploring and Using Media
- Paint music - Choose some colouring pencils or paint and listen to these different pieces of classical music. What does it sound like is going on in the piece of music? Is it happy or sad? Can you draw a picture of a story that goes with the music, or maybe some instruments that you think you can hear? Do you recognise any of the music from Montessori?
- Make Straw Rockets - Follow the instructions to make these cool, easy straw rockets and see how high you can launch them!
Physical Development
- Lidl Mudder - Lidl have teamed up with Tough Mudder to bring you a range of exercises and activities to do at home.
- Build an indoor activity - These indoor activities include throwing activities, ball games and obstacle courses to climb through, like one using crepe paper. You could also build one using chairs, sheets, and other various things to manoeuvre around!
- Left and Right - Starting to learn left from right can be really useful, especially when getting ready to go to school, as it helps with things like putting your shoes on the right way round. This video catchy little video can also help!
