Government Guidelines

These are the Government guidelines and suggestions, Part 1 and Part 2, for recipes that we have always used in our Kitchen in the Montessori. Most of our meals are based on the recipes in part 2 – with variations where necessary to suit different cohorts of children and dietary requirements.

Bonnie's Top Tips

Top tips from Bonnie on some sneaky healthy eating:

1. “Food processors or blenders are invaluable in sneaking in vegetables and pulses – a can of chickpeas whizzed in a tomato pasta sauce in a food processor provides a good source of protein without being noticed! Similarly onions and other vegetables can be whizzed in a food processor into sauces, casseroles and curries without being obvious.”

2. “Giving a child choices is also really helpful – ‘Would you like your bolognese on top or by the side of your pasta?’ helps children to make decisions.”

3. “Allowing children to prepare their own healthy snacks or select ingredients and help cook meals really encourages them to try different foods.”
